YOGA

A Return to the Ancient Rhythm of Life through Breath, Stillness, and Inner Awareness

Union of Body, Mind, and Inner Forces within the Framework of Vedic Traditions

Preface

“Yogaḥ citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ”

Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind.
Patañjali, Yoga Sūtra 1.2

Yoga, derived from the Sanskrit root yuj, means union—the integration of body, mind, and inner essence with the cosmic order. This profound Indian tradition, emerging from the Upanishads and Patañjali’s Sūtras, is not merely a physical discipline, but a path toward self-knowledge, awareness, and existential balance.

At our studio, yoga is not treated as a uniform group activity, but as a personal dialogue between body and mind.
Our approach is rooted in Viniyoga—a tradition that honors individuality, physical diversity, and psychological needs, weaving together movement, breath, and consciousness to create a safe and intentional space for deep, transformative practice.

Educational methods

Yoga Instruction at the Studio is grounded in ancient traditions and enriched by contemporary interpretation. The approach is holistic and progressive, designed to unfold gradually and meaningfully.
Each session, akin to a meditation in motion, integrates the following core elements:

  • Prānāyāma (Conscious Breathing):
Opening energy pathways and purifying the mind through the inner rhythm of breath.
  • Āsana (Postures):
Developing strength, flexibility, and somatic awareness in alignment with each individual's unique structure.
  • Dharāṇā & Dhyāna (Concentration & Meditation):
Cultivating a stable mind to calm the nervous system and return to the present moment.

Our instructors, with deep understanding of individual physical and psychological patterns, design the training not only for movement, but for inner transformation and shifts in perception.
Each practice is carefully adapted, making it accessible for all ages and backgrounds, allowing every practitioner to enter the depth of the practice—regardless of prior experience.

Goals and benefits

This approach to practice shifts the focus away from mere flexibility or strength, and instead emphasizes inner perception and qualitative transformation in daily life. Its tangible benefits include:

  • Strengthening the muscular structure and improving joint and spinal function
  • Enhancing coordination between the respiratory, nervous, and motor systems
  • Improving sleep quality, concentration, and psychological resilience
  • Reducing anxiety and stress responses through hormonal balance
  • Cultivating embodied awareness, leading to healthier movement patterns and mental habits in everyday life

Evaluation and Progress, Rooted in Wisdom

According to Patañjali’s Sūtras, yoga unfolds only through consistency, presence, and alignment with one’s individual capacity.
We design the learning path based on the principle of "tasya bhūmiṣu viniyogaḥ"the adaptation of practice to the practitioner’s foundation and ability.

Periodic assessments of breath, range of motion, and quality of mental presence allow the instructor to offer a personalized and responsive program—one that ensures steady, deep, and sustainable growth.

Where and How Do We Begin?

Atha Yogānuśāsanam
Now, the teaching of Yoga begins.

Summer Seminars on Tai Chi and Medical Qigong – YFH, USA

In the summer of 2025, a series of specialized seminars took place at the mountain retreat of Yang’s Family Heights (YFH) with the presence of Dr. Yang. These seminars featured advanced training in Tai Chi Chuan, Tai Chi Sword, Push Hands (Tuishou), and Fighting Set forms.

The final segment focused primarily on Medical Qigong and the Grand Circulation of Energy (Da Mai). Although the groups were smaller in size, participants demonstrated high enthusiasm and commitment.

All classes were held at full capacity, and the combination of a serene retreat environment alongside the mountain nature created an ideal setting for focused learning and growth. Meals were provided by a professional chef, emphasizing healthful and nourishing cuisine.

Dr. Yang has announced that summer 2026 may mark the final occurrence of these seminars at YFH.

Angles of Benefit: The Dynamic Equilibrium Between Peak and Recovery

Being constantly at your peak—physically or mentally—may, at first glance, seem like a sign of health. But on closer examination, we find that a “100% maximum” state sustained over time allows no room for flexibility or breathing space in the body and mind’s intricate systems. We are not dealing with a linear model (all or nothing), but rather a dynamic and cyclical system.

Neijing Tu: The “Inner Landscape” Diagram

Neijing Tu (內經圖) is closely connected with Chinese medicine. This work is considered a classic in Taoist internal alchemy practice. Using landscape painting metaphorically, it depicts the functions of human organs, the roles of various body parts, and the emotional stages throughout the practice. The diagram uses imagery to point to the dual cultivation of essence (jing) and life (sheng), revealing their true meaning in the unity of heaven and humanity. It has been praised by later generations as the "first image of Chinese health preservation." As a classic, the time of its creation has always been a subject of debate.
