Qigong
A path for the harmonious development of body, mind, and energy.
Preface
Qigong is a physical and mental practice rooted in traditional Chinese medicine that focuses on the flow of the body’s vital energy, known as “Qi.”
This discipline uses simple movements, gentle stretches, and breathing patterns to circulate Qi throughout the body and release energy blockages. The primary goal of Qigong is to facilitate continuous energy flow and enhance mental calmness. Research shows that regular practice of Qigong can reduce anxiety and symptoms of depression. The slow and purposeful movements of Qigong are accessible to most people and can even be performed while seated, making these exercises suitable for all ages and physical abilities.
Educational methods
In our Qigong classes, emphasis is placed on coordinating breath with movement. We usually begin with gentle warm-ups and yogic breathing exercises, followed by teaching Qigong forms that include hand opening and closing postures and gentle spinal rotations. No special equipment is needed; instructors encourage students to practice Qigong even if they have limited time (for example, just 10 minutes a day), as research has shown that daily practice of Qigong for as little as 10 minutes can reduce stress and improve bodily function. Throughout the class, the focus remains on calming the mind and maintaining a steady breathing rhythm.
Goals and benefits
Qigong exercises bring noticeable physical and mental improvements. By enhancing blood circulation and oxygen delivery throughout the body, endurance and physical condition are improved. Additionally, the simplicity of the movements combined with mindful meditation helps reduce everyday stress. According to an expert, “Qigong is generally safe and easy for almost anyone and offers many benefits.”
Moreover, Qigong has been reported to strengthen the immune system and regulate respiratory function. Thus, Qigong serves as an excellent complement to yoga and Tai Chi within our exercise program.
Evaluation and progress path
Learning Qigong, like other disciplines in this studio, is conducted gradually and tailored to individual needs. Instructors introduce different levels of forms step by step, and at each stage, practitioners learn to improve the coordination of movements and deepen their breathing. Continuous feedback and Q&A sessions help clear doubts and allow students to gradually deepen their practice. Progress in Qigong is measured by awareness of energy flow in the body and the ability to maintain specific postures, which our instructors continuously monitor.
