Functional Abilities

Courses for Better Sleep, Anxiety Relief & Emotional Balance

Preface

Our Functional Skills Development program is designed to help individuals regain physical and emotional balance by addressing specific challenges such as sleep disturbances, chronic stress, anxiety, anger, fear, depression, and spinal issues.

These programs integrate time-tested practices from traditional mind-body systems—such as Tai Chi, Qigong, Yoga, and breathwork—into a holistic and accessible format that supports functional improvement in daily life.

Educational methods

Sessions are offered in both group and private formats and are led by experienced instructors trained in therapeutic movement, somatic awareness, and breathing techniques. Each program is tailored to the specific needs of the participant and often includes gentle movement, guided relaxation, breath regulation, and mindfulness-based techniques.

Functional practices emphasize gradual body-mind reintegration and are suitable for people of all ages and physical abilities.

Goals and benefits

These programs aim to restore the body’s natural rhythms, enhance sleep quality, reduce emotional volatility, and strengthen postural integrity and coordination. Participants often report increased energy, better focus, and a greater sense of inner calm. The emphasis on breath, body awareness, and mindful engagement allows deep regulation of the nervous system and builds resilience.

Clinical studies support the efficacy of these methods in managing functional disorders and improving overall quality of life.

Evaluation and progress path

Progress is monitored through continuous feedback, physical assessments, and personalized adjustment of exercises. Each participant is guided step-by-step toward functional milestones relevant to their condition. Instructors ensure that learning remains practical, safe, and motivating—helping individuals regain control over their physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Summer Seminars on Tai Chi and Medical Qigong – YFH, USA

In the summer of 2025, a series of specialized seminars took place at the mountain retreat of Yang’s Family Heights (YFH) with the presence of Dr. Yang. These seminars featured advanced training in Tai Chi Chuan, Tai Chi Sword, Push Hands (Tuishou), and Fighting Set forms.

The final segment focused primarily on Medical Qigong and the Grand Circulation of Energy (Da Mai). Although the groups were smaller in size, participants demonstrated high enthusiasm and commitment.

All classes were held at full capacity, and the combination of a serene retreat environment alongside the mountain nature created an ideal setting for focused learning and growth. Meals were provided by a professional chef, emphasizing healthful and nourishing cuisine.

Dr. Yang has announced that summer 2026 may mark the final occurrence of these seminars at YFH.

Compensatory Release Valves and Inner Order in Yoga, Qigong, and Taijiquan In the classical body–mind traditions, movement has never been an end in itself.
