Course Description
Pushing Hands (Tui Shou) serves as a vital bridge between solo Taijiquan forms and their practical applications. This traditional, partner-based, and dynamic exercise focuses on sensing force, maintaining balance, and responding softly to pressure.
In Pushing Hands, practitioners explore the principles of Tai Chi through live interaction: listening, yielding, leading, and releasing.
More than a martial drill, it is a space for cultivating internal responsiveness, developing Ting Jin (Listening Energy), and harmonizing body, mind, and partner.
Course Structure
This foundational course introduces the essential concepts of Pushing Hands, including:
- Basic postures and stance in relation to a partner
- Introductory circular drills (single-hand and double-hand circling)
- Transmitting and redirecting force without tension (Yielding and Redirecting)
- Developing sensitivity to incoming force (Ting Jin – Listening Energy)
Learning Objectives

Yes. Tuishou is a foundational step in learning the martial applications of Taijiquan. It enables students to explore self-defense concepts while maintaining calmness and non-aggression.
The Taijiquan form is an individual practice that builds internal structure and energy. Tuishou is an interactive practice, applying those same principles in relation to another person.
